National Assembly President Alen Simonyan is participating in events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly in Almaty, the capital of Kazakhstan.
The NA reports that during the session, the head of the RA parliament drew the attention of those present to the current situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, particularly addressing the March 24 incursion by Azerbaijani armed forces into the village of Parukh in the Askeran district of NK, located in the zone of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, thereby grossly violating the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020.
The RA NA President informed his colleagues that post-war humanitarian and other issues remain unresolved, emphasizing the question of Armenian prisoners of war and hostages, whose number, according to data confirmed by Azerbaijan, is 38.
In response to Alen Simonyan’s speech, the Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, stated that Azerbaijan remains committed to the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, and has not violated its provisions. Gafarova noted that Azerbaijan has handed over all prisoners of war to Armenia, in accordance with the trilateral statement.
In response to those statements, RA NA President Simonyan reminded the lady: “Not only the Republic of Armenia, but also the Russian Federation, which is the guarantor of peace in the given territory, has declared the armed incursions and violations by the Azerbaijani side. I would like to reiterate: Armenia proposes that Azerbaijan immediately begin negotiations on concluding a peace treaty.”
The head of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis responded by stating that Baku has repeatedly offered Yerevan to sign a peace treaty, taking into account the five points, which Armenia has rejected.
In response to the head of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis’s assertion that Baku had offered and Armenia had refused, Alen Simonyan stated:
“I officially declare that those five points are acceptable to Armenia, and we believe that if we add certain aspects, we can begin the implementation of that work,” Simonyan concluded the debate.
The speech of NA President Alen Simonyan was followed by thunderous applause from the presidents of the parliaments of the CIS countries and delegates, which interrupted Gafarova’s speech. The debate was not continued.
