Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has approved a law declaring the occupied Armenian city of Shushi the cultural capital of Azerbaijan.
According to Azerbaijani media, under the law, a state reserve is to be created within the city’s administrative territory. The document also defines the main directions of state policy for the city’s development.
The Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers has been tasked with determining and approving the boundaries of the security zone of the Shushi state reserve, establishing the security regime of the security zone, and approving the procedure for the ongoing monitoring of the city’s monuments within three months. The Cabinet of Ministers must also, within three months, approve the list of types of entrepreneurial activity that are prohibited, as well as prepare proposals and submit them to the head of state regarding the sources of financing for the reserve.
