Armenia has recorded its first case of the new coronavirus disease. The patient is a 29-year-old Armenian citizen, a man who arrived by plane with his wife on 28 February from Tehran. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wrote about this on Facebook, noting that he would propose cancelling the march scheduled for 1 March. Pashinyan’s post is below.
“He himself contacted a doctor, and his condition is good; at the time of going to the hospital he had a fever, now he does not even have a fever. The preliminary test gave a positive result, and the results of the second test became known at 3 a.m. Yerevan time.
It is noteworthy that the test result of the patient’s wife is negative. That is, no virus was detected in her. Now the government will take the necessary measures according to the rules set by the World Health Organization.
People who have been in contact with the patient will be isolated. I should also note that on the plane arriving from Tehran, as we had anticipated, there were Armenian citizens, and their inalienable right to return to the homeland was ensured by the flight.
In Tehran and on the plane, all the passengers were wearing masks; they were escorted from the plane and the airport in a special manner, so as not to have unnecessary contacts.
The border guard employee who processed the entry of the patient and his wife into Armenia is known. By the way, the border guards were also wearing masks and medical gloves.
The passenger vehicles by which the patient came from the airport to home and from home to the hospital will be identified, and their drivers will also be isolated. For the isolated citizens, we will provide high-level hotel conditions, but in separate facilities. In total, about 30 citizens will be isolated today.
The Prime Minister assures that all necessary measures are being taken to prevent the spread of the virus.
He calls for maintaining calm, trusting only the news disseminated by the government and official bodies, as well as applying the measures recommended by the Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of the infection.
