The alliance led by Erdogan’s party is set to secure a majority within parliament. The information was reported by the Turkish broadcaster TRT. According to preliminary data received from polling stations across Turkey, the alliance is expected to win more than 320 parliamentary seats, that is, more than half.
It should be noted that Turkey’s highest legislative body, the Meclis, has 600 seats. Deputies are elected for a five-year term in general elections under proportional party lists, as well as by a majoritarian system in 85 electoral districts. Taking the population size into account, Istanbul comprises 3 electoral districts, while Ankara and Izmir each comprise 2 electoral districts. Only parties that have garnered more than 10 percent of the votes are represented within parliament.
