Following a meeting held in Berlin on March 2, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a joint press conference with Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Among the key topics of Pashinyan’s and Scholz’s discussions were the security situation in the South Caucasus and the challenges facing Armenia.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia expressed gratitude to the German government for supporting the decision to deploy a new long-term European Union monitoring mission in Armenia, and stated that he is convinced this mission will play a significant role in establishing peace and security in the region.
“At present, the presence of the EU observation mission is regulated by mutual official letters, but we also have an understanding that an agreement regulating that presence and the mission must be discussed, negotiated and signed. And I also think that we may sign a document regulating the presence of the monitoring mission in the near future. The near future — when we negotiate and reach a common agreement on the formulations of the agreements already reached,” Pashinyan declared.
He also deemed significant the dispatch of an international fact-finding mission to the Lachin corridor and Artsakh, in order to acquaint the international community with the situation in a more comprehensive manner.
