During a statement at the National Assembly, Andranik Kocharyan, a deputy of the “My Step” faction, called on the competent bodies to take steps to bring back to Armenia former officials who have left the country and are involved in a number of criminal cases. He noted that the reference is, in particular, to Mikael Harutyunyan, Vahagn Harutyunyan, Mihran Poghosyan and Kevork Kostanyan. “It is difficult to say how much longer this list will grow, but one thing is clear: these former officials must understand that numerous important structures were entrusted to their management at the time. The reference is addressed especially to the former heads of the security structures.
By avoiding appearing and answering the questions of the preliminary investigation body, these individuals prove that not only did they themselves ruin the structures they headed, but they also cast a shadow over the path taken by the many professional cadres who at the time conscientiously carried out their services in such a murky atmosphere.
The relevant bodies must take steps to bring them home as soon as possible, if these individuals do not have the ability to realise on their own the importance of returning,” Kocharyan said. He added that at least half of these people do not have Russian citizenship, and some of them merely carried out at the time legal orders of highly dubious nature given by another high-ranking official.
