The Lebanon Regional Board of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party learned with deep sorrow of the death of Lebanese-Armenian lawyer, intellectual, and staunch defender and pioneer of the Armenian Cause, Maître Gaspar Terteryan. With the Maître’s death, Western Armenians and the entire Armenian people have lost a great defender of the restoration of Armenian rights. We have lost a great Armenian intellectual who, through his prolific pen, journalistic articles, and public speaking, was the interpreter of the sentiments of the Armenian people yearning for their homeland. Maître Terteryan was one of the founders of the Congress of Dispersed Western Armenians. The Congress’s aim was to rally a group of patriotic intellectuals around the Cause of Western Armenians and to work for the success of our Cause. Being a broad-minded intellectual, he included many Ramgavars in the Congress, well aware that a Ramgavar believes in dialogue and is not a follower of rigid ideologies, but sees the big picture and cooperates with all positive forces serving the nation on the path to the success of our Cause.
As chairman of the Lebanese-Armenian Literary Circle, he organized literary and intellectual meetings of a high level. Many times he involved Ramgavar intellectuals in the Literary Circle, such as Vahe Vahian and Gersam Aharonyan.
May your soul remain in light, noble Maître. The Armenian Democratic Liberal Party and the Armenian people will always remember with gratitude the blessed Maître Gaspar Terteryan, one of the unwavering defenders of their Cause. There must be those who continue this sacred work.
