At the invitation of the Governor of the Nor Shahumyan region of the Republic of Mountainous Karabakh, Gagik Martirosyan, on Monday 27 May, Ara Aharonian, member of the ADL Central Board, departed for Karvachar.
Since 1994, the mountainous heights of Karvachar have become populated by Armenians, serving as the administrative centre for the village population of the Nor Shahumyan region.
Inside the Karvachar governor’s office, Aharonian was received by Governor Martirosyan and his assistant Boghos Meghryan.
During the meeting, which lasted about an hour, Aharonian became closely acquainted with the efforts invested in settlement within the Nor Shahumyan region. It should be noted that the region has had more visitors since the opening of the new Vardenis-Martakert road, where visitors also have the opportunity to visit the nearby Dadivank monastery, which holds historical value. In Karvachar itself, there is already a daily school and a clinic for the region’s 3,000 inhabitants, as well as an arts centre in need of renovation.
