Armenia has assumed the chairmanship of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) for 2022. The chairmanship was officially transferred to Armenia from Tajikistan in September 2021, at the organization’s last session.
Armenia has already formulated the priorities of the organization’s chairmanship, taking into account the challenges of recent years. These include increasing the effectiveness of CSTO activities, as well as questions of the further development of the organization’s military component. The structure’s other traditional priorities, including the fight against terrorism, extremism, illicit drug trafficking and illegal migration, are maintained.
Among the CSTO’s new priorities is countering biological threats. A coordinating council of bodies authorized on biological security matters is to be established under the Committee of Secretaries of the Security Councils of CSTO member states.
At the end of 2022, the CSTO chairmanship will pass from Armenia to Belarus.
