Armenia can become a regional hub for electric power: Pashinyan

In the conviction of RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Armenia can become a regional hub for electric power, uniting the common market of the Eurasian Economic Union and Iran’s electric power system. The Prime Minister expressed this view in his opening speech at the two-day international conference titled “Transit Potential of the Eurasian Continent” taking place in Yerevan.   “The Republic of Armenia, proceeding from its geographical particularities, is ready to exert every effort to ensure access to new markets, as well as the necessary infrastructure, within the framework of the inevitable increase in freight and passenger transportation in the

“The Republic of Armenia, proceeding from its geographical particularities, is ready to exert every effort to ensure access to new markets, as well as the necessary infrastructure, within the framework of the inevitable increase in freight and passenger transportation in the near future.

Apart from using the transit potential in the transport sector, Armenia can also become a regional electric power hub, which would unite the common electricity market of the Eurasian Economic Union and Iran’s power system,” said Pashinyan, expressing confidence that platforms such as this conference and the exchange of views give additional impetus to the strengthening of cooperation also beyond the EAEU borders.

In the Prime Minister’s view, the conference is a good platform for the exchange of views on ways to strengthen trade and economic ties and on establishing the architecture of transport issues in the Eurasian space. Pashinyan expressed the hope that with the results of the discussions they will be able to better assess existing opportunities and clarify the mechanisms for overcoming obstacles.

The Prime Minister also stressed that during Armenia’s chairmanship of the EAEU, maximum efforts were made to further ensure the positive process of integration, as well as to solve those problems that can serve as an additional impetus for economic growth in the countries.

The Prime Minister also noted that historically the Eurasian continent has been a mosaic of trade, economic, cultural and communication processes, in which Armenia, located on the Great Silk Road, the centre of trade communication between East and West, played no small role. He noted that the rise of Artashat, one of Armenia’s ancient capitals, known as the “Carthage of Armenia,” and the centuries-old capital Ani, renowned for its magnificent architectural monuments, was also conditioned by the fact that they were located on the Silk Road:
