The Armenian Democratic Liberal Party was founded in 1921. It is the continuation of the “Armenakan” party founded by M. Portugalian in 1885 in the city of Van.
The Armenian Democratic Liberal Party holds the following principles and creed:
-The ADL is the native offspring of the Armenian people and the faithful expression of their powerful national aspiration. Dedicated to the cause of the complete restoration of the Armenian historical homeland, the ADL believes that this is possible through the physical strengthening of the Armenian people, by the joint efforts of all classes, without class discrimination.
-The ADL’s worldview is based on the principles of the sovereignty of the people’s will, the application of the natural rights of the individual and the collectivity, and social reforms.
-The ADL believes that every citizen is equal before the law and that their person and civil liberties must remain inviolable from group and governmental encroachments.
The party’s goals are:
-To secure and preserve Armenia’s independence and sovereignty.
-To restore Armenia’s territorial integrity under Armenian state authority, through the liberation of all occupied Armenian lands.
-To work for the economic, political, social and cultural prosperity of Armenia.
