The Armenia-EU Common Aviation Agreement was signed in Brussels on November 15 by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi, and Slovenian State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Stanislav Rascan, representing the EU Council presidency.
The Armenian Foreign Ministry announced this, noting that Minister Ararat Mirzoyan delivered a speech in which he said, in particular:
“Today’s signing of the Common Aviation Agreement is another important milestone in our relations with the European Union and its 27 member states.
I wish to express my sincere gratitude to all those who made today’s event a reality: our partners in the European Commission, the Council and the Slovenian presidency, all relevant authorities in Armenia, and our diplomatic mission in Brussels.
In the near future, the ratification and entry into force of this Agreement will create new opportunities for the development of the aviation sector in Armenia, facilitating the connection of Armenian citizens with other European countries.
Joining the EU common aviation area — the single market for aviation services — will contribute to the adoption of EU aviation standards, the application of aviation rules, and will develop further cooperation in the field of aviation safety. National airlines and, of course, individual travellers will benefit from all this.
I am confident that the Agreement will be of great importance for stimulating trade, tourism, investment and, in general, economic and social development, and will also promote people-to-people contacts and provide greater mobility opportunities.”
