While Baku continues to speak of the “future awaited within Azerbaijan” for the Armenians of Artsakh, regarding territorial integrity, Armenia again declares that it has no territorial claims on its neighbors. This was stated by the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, during the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly taking place in Bahrain.
The cornerstone of Armenia’s international policy, according to him, is the maintenance of peaceful relations with all countries, yet, despite this, the country faces numerous threats.
“Tension in the South Caucasus continues,” said Simonyan, first recalling that for nearly two years now Azerbaijan has violated Armenia’s territorial integrity, seizing approximately 150 square kilometers of territory.
He also spoke about the closure of the Lachin corridor, noting that it is the only road connecting Armenia and the world to Artsakh. “That road has been inaccessible to other civilian means of transport since December 12, 2022, and has been blocked by dozens of Azerbaijani agents who disguise themselves under the name of ‘environmental activists’,” said Simonyan.
He also denied Azerbaijan’s claim that Armenia supplies weapons to Artsakh.
