At a press conference convened by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, Artak Davtyan, the possibility of purchasing S-400 systems was addressed, noting that for now this issue is not being considered and Armenia has no such decision. “We have S-300 systems that are on combat duty,” he said.
At the same time, Artak Davtyan declared that Armenia is negotiating to purchase long-range weapons. But no agreements have been signed yet. “We anticipate that in 2022-2023 the weapons will be in Armenia,” he said.
Referring to the threat of war, he said: “The threat of war has neither decreased nor increased. That threat exists as long as there is no political solution to the Artsakh issue,” he noted. According to Artak Davtyan, Turkey is also a challenge for Armenia today.
Speaking about the supply of weapons, the Chief of the General Staff stressed that the contract for the supply of fighter jets was signed after the change of government. Referring to the acquisition of the THOR air defense missile system, Davtyan stressed that it is the result of the work of both the previous and the new authorities. He said the decision existed but was frozen.
