On Wednesday, 30 September 2020, a meeting of the representatives of the leading bodies of the three Armenian political parties in Lebanon — the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party and the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party — took place at the “Shaghzoyan” Center.
At the outset, the attendees discussed the war unleashed against Artsakh by Azerbaijan and Turkey. They affirmed the following:
A.- The aggressor in this premeditated and predetermined war is Azerbaijan, which enjoys Turkey’s direct, full and complete support and participation in this war.
B.- Large numbers of mercenaries from various countries are being brought into the unleashed war at Turkey’s initiative.
C.- Essentially condemnable is Israel’s role in this war, as a consequence and natural expression of the Turkish-Israeli and Israeli-Azerbaijani political and military alliances.
D.- Azerbaijan and Turkey are violating all human rules by bombing the capital Stepanakert, other populated areas and the civilian population.
E.- Parallel to military operations, they have launched an unprecedented propaganda war aimed at distorting realities and misleading public opinion.
F.- An effort is being made to present the issue within the context of an Islamic-Christian conflict, which completely contradicts established reality.
As in the past, today too the three Armenian political parties express their full support for the heroic resistance of the people of Artsakh and the brave Armenian army, and for the sacred mission of halting the enemy’s expansionist and inhuman conduct.
The three parties believe and affirm that in this war the people of Artsakh will know no retreat and, with their valiant surge, will compel the enemy to sit at the negotiating table.
The meeting also addressed current internal political developments in Lebanon, particularly the vital necessity of forming a government. The unstable economic and security situation created in the country is having increasingly severe consequences on citizens, who are facing health, socio-economic and numerous other difficulties. Therefore, the Armenian political parties demand of all parties that they remain vigilant at this stage and be guided by the principle of halting the course leading Lebanon toward the abyss. The imperative of rising above partisan interests and demonstrating collective will and determination must today become the supreme task of all political parties.
Finally, the meeting also addressed the extensive activities of the Lebanese-Armenian Rehabilitation Body established under the auspices of His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, appreciating the initiatives realized thus far, and once again affirmed the urgent necessity of realizing the rehabilitation of the Armenian community through united efforts.
Having been informed of the body’s upcoming work, the meeting deemed highly useful the expansion of social services, the readiness to respond to the vital needs of Armenians, and finally, the material support the body has shown for the revitalization of national, church and union work. Within the framework of the rehabilitation of the Lebanese-Armenian community and overcoming the crisis, the meeting welcomed the full solidarity shown by the Armenian world.
