The preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated on the facts of Azerbaijan’s military-political leadership unleashing and waging war against Artsakh, using previously recruited mercenaries during military operations, employing prohibited methods and means of warfare, failing to distinguish civilians from combatants, and making the civilian population of peaceful settlements of the Republic of Artsakh the target of systematic, premeditated and deliberate attacks, in particular targeting and shelling the civilian population and civilian structures in the deep rear with indiscriminate attacks, committing acts considered serious violations of international humanitarian law, continues in the Department for the Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the Military Investigative Main Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
Within the framework of the criminal case, it has been established that the total number of servicemen and civilians killed in the Republic of Artsakh and Armenia as a result of the war unleashed by Azerbaijan amounts to 3,822 persons. As of 21 March 2022, the whereabouts of 187 servicemen and 21 civilians remain unknown.
To date, a total of 150 captured servicemen and civilians have been handed over by the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Armenia.
