On August 4, Armenia’s Consul General in Los Angeles, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Armen Baibourtian, held a remote meeting with US Congressman Mike Steel, who represents the 48th congressional district stretching along the coastal region of Orange County in Southern California.
The Consulate of Armenia in Los Angeles reports that Ambassador Baibourtian congratulated Congressman Steel on his election to the US House of Representatives and his joining the Congressional Armenian Caucus. He highly commended Mike Steel’s continued support for Armenian issues. Even in his previous capacity, when he was Orange County Supervisor and Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, resolutions declaring April 24 as a day of remembrance of the Armenian Genocide have been adopted unanimously since 2015, on Mike Steel’s initiative.
Ambassador Baibourtian informed Congressman Steel about Azerbaijan’s encroachments on the state sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia. Azerbaijan’s ongoing military provocations along Armenia’s borders, resulting in human casualties, as well as its refusal to release Armenian prisoners of war and abducted civilians illegally held in Azerbaijan, constitute a gross violation of international law. He underscored the imperative to condemn these atrocious acts and uphold the fundamental rules of peaceful coexistence of humanity.
Congressman Steel noted that his commitment to supporting Armenian issues is enduring. The interlocutors discussed matters regarding cooperation and the organization of future meetings.
