On September 13, the main phase of the joint strategic exercise “West-2021” (“Zapad-2021”) began at Russia’s “Mulino” training ground. Armenia’s Defense Minister Arshak Karapetyan also followed the operations, which proceeded with live fire.
Involved in the main phase of the “West-2021” exercise are the units and military formations of Russia’s Western Military District, as well as military contingents from Armenia, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia. Armenia participated in the exercise with a battalion composed of tank, motorized rifle and missile-artillery subunits.
“The basis of the combat training operations is the experience of recent military operations, particularly in the Syrian Arab Republic and the Republic of Artsakh. New variants and methods of joint forces operations have also been developed,” stated the report of the Department of Information and Public Relations of Armenia’s Ministry of Defense.
“The ‘Mulino’ training ground provides the opportunity to organize exercises using firearms, military armored vehicles, artillery and air defense systems, air forces, as well as ‘Iskander-M’ operational-tactical missile systems,” reported Armenia’s military department.
“Zapad-2021” began on September 10 and will last one week.
Armenia’s Defense Minister is to participate on September 15-16 in the joint sessions of the CSTO statutory bodies, as well as the Collective Security Council meetings, to be held in Dushanbe.
