Artsakh Local Government Elections: Arayik Harutyunyan’s “Free Homeland” Takes the Lead

At the conclusion of the local government body elections held in Artsakh on Sunday, it has become clear that the “Free Homeland” party, led by former Artsakh Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan, has taken the lead. At the conclusion of the local government body elections held in Artsakh on Sunday, it has become clear that the “Free Homeland” party, led by former Artsakh Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan, has taken the lead.

For example, the city of Shushi will be governed in the coming years by Artsvik Sargsyan. In the elections held the previous day, 879 voters cast their ballots in his favor. Artsvik Sargsyan is the acting head of the Shushi community and is non-partisan.

According to preliminary data published by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), among the registered candidates, Artur Hayrapetyan received 184 votes, Khachatur Hayriyan 120 votes, and Vladik Hambardzumyan 56 votes. According to the CEC’s preliminary data, 1,813 people participated in the voting here.

In Askeran, Samuel Aghajanyan received the highest number of votes, 469. He is the incumbent community head and a member of the “Free Homeland” party. Among the other candidates, Armen Bakhshiyan and Nver Gabrielyan received 304 votes. 1,232 voters participated in the mayoral elections here.

In Martakert, Misha Gyurjyan was elected mayor. Of 1,824 voters, 945 cast their ballots in his favor. He is the incumbent mayor and is non-partisan.

In Martuni, Hayk Sargsyan was elected mayor. He received 1,292 votes. The other candidate, Vadim Danielyan, trailed him by more than 200 votes, receiving 1,051 votes. The elected candidate is from the “Free Homeland” party and is the director of the “Gor Sargsyan” LLC.

In Karvachar, Sergey Chilngaryan was elected with 210 votes. He is the incumbent mayor and is from the “Free Homeland” party. His rival, Serob Naltakyan, received 190 votes, with a total of 407 citizens participating in the vote.

Vahan Savadyan was elected mayor of Hadrut with 676 votes. He is non-partisan and works as an engineer at the “Artsakhenergo” company. His only rival, Artsvik Hayrapetyan, received 565 votes.

In Berdzor, Narek Aleksanyan was elected mayor. He received 306 votes. He is the deputy head of the community and a member of the “Free Homeland” party. 986 voters participated in the vote.

Let us recall that the chairman of the “Free Homeland” party is former Artsakh Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan, who intends to participate in the Artsakh presidential elections to be held in 2020.

In the capital of Artsakh, David Sargsyan received the highest number of votes among the five candidates. 7,787 voters cast their ballots in his favor. He is non-partisan and is the executive director of the “General Group” company.

Among the other candidates, Grigori Sahakyan received 4,765 votes, Areg Avagyan 3,125 votes, Armen Hagopian 3,059 votes, and Arayik Avanesyan 2,108 votes.

In Stepanakert, 21,615 voters participated in the vote.
