The National Assembly has initiated the process of amendments to the Electoral Code and the Law on Parties, as a result of which pivotal changes may take place in the two documents.
According to the coordinator of the working group, Hamazasp Danielyan, a deputy of the “My Step” faction, they have sufficient time to address all issues, from the major ones to those that at first glance seem less important.
One of the most criticised points of the Electoral Code—the revision of the ranking electoral system—will be at the centre of upcoming discussions. According to the deputy, at this moment he can only say clearly that this electoral system is not acceptable for “My Step”.
“I would add that the regulations related to the appeal procedure for electoral disputes, the duration of the campaign, and more broadly the regulations related to the campaign, perhaps the procedure for forming commissions, and the voter lists are extremely important, because for decades we have been talking about their being inflated,” noted the deputy of the ruling faction.
The deputies will first work on the draft amendments to the Law on Parties, trying to make it a reality by January 1. While developing the draft, great attention will be paid to the transparency of parties’ financial sources, accountability, and issues of internal democracy.
