On 28 June, elections for the president, vice-president and academic secretary of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (NAS RA) were held at the NAS RA. Ashot Saghyan, academician and director of the “Haykensatechnology” scientific-production centre of the NAS RA, was elected to the post of president of the NAS RA. The Academy’s press service reported this.
Three candidates were nominated for the post of president of the NAS RA: Lenser Aghalovyan, academician-secretary of the Department of Mathematical and Technical Sciences of the NAS RA, academician; Ashot Saghyan, director of the “Haykensatechnology” scientific-production centre of the NAS RA, academician; and academician Eduard Ghazaryan. In the first round, no candidate gathered sufficient votes. In the second round, academician Ashot Saghyan was elected to the post of president of the NAS RA with a ratio of 55 in favour, 34 against and 5 invalid votes.
The newly elected president of the NAS RA, Ashot Saghyan, nominated the candidacy of Hrand Matevosyan, corresponding member of the NAS RA, for the post of vice-president of the NAS RA, and the candidacy of Artur Ishkhanyan, corresponding member of the NAS RA, for the post of academic secretary of the NAS RA. Both were elected by closed, secret ballot with a ratio of 80 in favour and 12 against.
On 29 June, elections for the academic secretaries of the departments of the NAS RA will be held at the NAS RA.
