Yesterday, on 29 May, the National Council of the Parliament of the Republic of Austria unanimously ratified the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement during its 34th plenary session. This was reported by the Embassy of Armenia in Austria.

During the discussions preceding the ratification, the head of the Austria-South Caucasus parliamentary friendship group, Gudrun Kugler (ÖVP), highly praised the democratic changes that have recently taken place in Armenia, noting that Armenia and Austria share the same Christian value system, and that the ratification of the Agreement provides an opportunity to further develop bilateral friendly relations. She emphasised that the Agreement is of great importance in creating a solid legal basis for cooperation between the European Union and Armenia. She also noted that the Agreement can contribute to the stability and prosperity of the entire region. It provides an opportunity to improve the investment and business environment, from which Armenian and European enterprises, including small and medium-sized businesses, will benefit.

Statements in support of the ratification of the Agreement were also made by Austria’s Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg, the chair of the Austrian Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Pamela Rendi-Wagner (Social Democratic Party/SPÖ), as well as members of the Austrian Freedom Party/FPÖ, the Greens/Grüne, and New Austria/NEOS parliamentary groups.
