The Caucasus Heritage Watch (CHW) is raising the alarm that the Armenian cemetery in the village of Mets Tagher, located in the Hadrut region now under Azerbaijani control, has been destroyed.
The cemetery was founded in the early 19th century and was in use until 2020, when Armenians were evacuated from the village due to the war. Satellite imagery shows its complete destruction. The image shows the track of a bulldozer (earth-moving machine).
According to researchers, the Holy All-Savior Church, founded in 1846, in the same village appears to be under threat of construction. As of April, a bulldozer had been placed in the area immediately east of the church, and trucks were parked in the clearing area.
The Caucasus Heritage Watch is concerned about the future of the church and calls for its protection.
