The next meeting in the “Brussels format” is important from the perspective of encouraging dialogue between the parties at the highest level. This was stated by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry in connection with the meeting in Brussels on May 14 between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, European Council President Charles Michel and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Trend reported.
“We consider the fifth meeting in this format between the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia, organised by the President of the European Council on May 14, to be useful and productive in advancing the agenda of normalising relations between the two countries. During the meeting, a detailed exchange of views took place on reaching specific results in the areas of agreeing on the draft bilateral peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the delimitation of borders and the restoration of communications.
Particularly important is the further reaffirmation of respect for the territorial integrity of states, Armenia’s recognition of Azerbaijan’s internationally recognised territorial integrity in this context.
We have stated that the normalisation of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, based on mutual recognition of and respect for each other’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and international borders, is the only way to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
We welcome efforts in this direction, contributing to the achievement of progress in the normalisation of relations, reaffirming our readiness to continue dialogue and cooperation with international partners pursuing this goal,” the statement of Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry said.
