The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan issued a statement addressing the visit of US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to Yerevan and the statements she made, noting that her “statement distorting the situation in the region deeply regrets.”
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry also did not fail to note that the one responsible for the created situation is not Azerbaijan, but Armenia.
“In general, Nancy Pelosi is known as a pro-Armenian political figure, and the presence of pro-Armenian members of Congress in the composition of her delegation directly demonstrates that. It seems that Pelosi is using this visit to gather support for her domestic political agenda and the Armenian lobbying circles in the US.
Unacceptable are the political intrigues and the lobbying of US interests in the domestic agenda, bringing them through Armenia to the South Caucasus region,” the statement said.
The Azerbaijani side also declared that Pelosi’s statements in Armenia should be viewed as statements based on Armenian propaganda.
“This is a serious blow to the efforts aimed at the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Such one-sided steps and unfounded statements do not contribute to the strengthening of the fragile peace in the region, on the contrary, they increase tension,” the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared.
Ankara, for its part, through Turkey’s Vice President Fuat Oktay, criticized Pelosi’s statements made in Yerevan, considering the statements about the clashes between Armenia and Azerbaijan biased and noting that they hinder diplomatic efforts.
Oktay wrote on his “Twitter” page that the White House should clarify whether “the statements of Pelosi and a few politicians enjoying the support of the Armenian lobby reflect the viewpoint of official Washington. I call on all international actors to act responsibly at a stage when there is a need for lasting peace and stability in the region”:
