Former Secretary of the Security Council of Mountainous Karabakh Vitaly Balasanyan did not appear for questioning at the Special Investigative Service (SIS), the SIS stated in response to an inquiry from Azatutyun.
Instead, Balasanyan sent an application to the investigative service handling the March 1 case, noting that “during the events of March 1 and 2, 2008, I was not personally in Yerevan, and my information about the events of those days is limited to what was accessible to the broad public and disseminated through the media.”
Meanwhile, days earlier Balasanyan had given an interview to one of the media outlets, in which he addressed those bloody events and expressed his viewpoint regarding the uncovering of the circumstances surrounding the killing of 10 victims. Balasanyan specifically addressed the investigative service’s claims about the involvement of armed forces in the 2008 political processes, saying: “What does it mean that the army fired? Show me one instance where the army fired. It is said that generals came, gave orders, generals fired, 60 people were singled out. Levon Ter-Petrosyan and his group fired on the people. The time will come; I too am aware of the March 1 events; I too have information about what was done. That phenomenon must be assessed at once, and Robert Kocharyan must be free.”
Following this statement, the SIS’s attempts to summon Balasanyan for questioning were unsuccessful. As the investigative service reports, a notice was sent to Vitaly Balasanyan through the police of the Republic of Artsakh to summon him for questioning in the March 1 criminal case, but afterwards they received his application.
