In response to Russia’s proposal to begin border demarcation and delimitation work, the Republic of Armenia has emphasized the need for the withdrawal of representatives of Azerbaijani armed forces from the RA’s sovereign territory before initiating such work, after which conditions for such discussions can be created.
This was stated by the Secretary of the RA Security Council, Armen Grigoryan, who presented the RA’s position regarding Russia’s proposal to begin demarcation and delimitation work between Armenia and Azerbaijan at the request of Armenpress.
“On May 18, a proposal was received from the Russian side to begin demarcation and delimitation work between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan. In response, the Armenian side emphasized the need for the withdrawal of representatives of Azerbaijani armed forces from the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia before initiating such work, after which conditions for such discussions can be created. We highly appreciate the efforts of the Russian side to contribute to the resolution of the current situation, expressing readiness to continue close cooperation, while emphasizing that the full preservation of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia cannot be a subject of discussion. We note that the recent actions of the Azerbaijani side are clearly aimed at failing to fulfill its own commitments undertaken by the statements made by the leaders of the RA, RF and Artsakh on November 9, 2020 and January 11, 2021,” Grigoryan said.
