The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, said on Thursday that he had tried to arrange a trilateral meeting with the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia but had not been able to succeed, Interfax reports.
“Since both ministers were in contact with me, we tried to establish a trilateral connection — the European Union, Armenia and Azerbaijan. It turned out that this was impossible, so I will meet with the two ministers separately,” Borrell said before the EU-Armenia Partnership Council session in Brussels, which was also attended by Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazyan.
On Friday, the EU-Azerbaijan Cooperation Council is scheduled, which is also expected to be attended by Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
Borrell noted that these meetings take place after the large-scale military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh.
“About 40 days ago, on 10 November, the ceasefire agreement brokered by Russia undoubtedly prevented further human casualties. But last week, unfortunately, we heard reports of violations of the ceasefire regime from both sides. Full observance of the ceasefire regime continues to be mandatory,” stressed the head of EU diplomacy.
He confirmed that the European Union fully supports the OSCE Minsk Group format.
