Belgium’s Chamber of Representatives adopted a resolution on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and its consequences with 130 votes in favour and 12 abstentions. Armenpress was informed of this by the Committee of Armenians of Belgium.
It was noted that the resolution “condemns Azerbaijan’s resumption of military operations on 27 September 2020,” and calls on the government to undertake a series of measures aimed at alleviating the suffering of the population affected by the war, identifying and prosecuting those responsible for war crimes, as well as maintaining the ceasefire regime and conducting negotiations toward a peaceful agreement that respects the borders of Nagorno-Karabakh and the right of its people to self-determination.
Among other provisions, the Parliament, in particular, condemns the harmful role that Turkey has played in this war and demands that it “cease military intervention in this conflict” and refrain from “playing a destabilising role in the region.”
The Committee of Armenians of Belgium calls on the government to act without delay in accordance with the parliament’s recommendations. It particularly emphasised the urgency of humanitarian aid and a Belgian presence in the region.
