The City Council of Burbank, California (USA) unanimously recognized Artsakh as an independent republic and simultaneously revoked the sister-city status between Burbank and Hadrut, since the city has come under Azerbaijani control.
This was reported by the Asbarez agency, noting that the Armenian community of the American city had worked for months toward the recognition of Artsakh following the war that resumed in September 2020.
“We thank the City Council and the residents of Burbank for the support shown to the people of Artsakh in their struggle for self-determination and freedom,” said Sarkis Simonyan, chairman of the Burbank Armenian National Committee.
He also expressed gratitude to Congressman Adam Schiff, State Senator Anthony Portantino, and other state representatives.
