The Senate of the US state of California has adopted a resolution establishing sister-state/region cooperation with Armenia’s Syunik province.

With this resolution, California expresses solidarity with Armenia’s southern province, Syunik.

It will contribute to mutually beneficial educational, economic and cultural cooperation between the two administrative units. It is noted that Armenia and the United States are bound by common values of history, democracy, freedom and prosperity, and the adoption of this resolution reaffirms that fact.

California State Assemblymember Chris Holden stated that the strengthening of relations with the province of Syunik comes at a time when regional powers — Azerbaijan and Turkey — pose a threat to the province’s existence and livelihood.

“This resolution reaffirms California’s solidarity with Armenia and our strong one-million-strong Armenian community. Today we are building lasting ties for a better tomorrow,” he said.
