Armenian President Armen Sarkissian and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a working meeting at the presidential residence, according to the president’s staff.

Issues related to the country’s current agenda were discussed.

The Prime Minister stressed that the theme of systemic reforms in the country must be given ever greater importance, and that the logic of strategic governance must be established and implemented.

Referring to the situation around the Constitutional Court, Nikol Pashinyan said: “I unequivocally share your view that we must approach this issue precisely with the logic of the country’s systemic consolidation, with the logic of our country’s national and state interests, with the logic of having a precise and functioning system of checks and balances, because only in that case will we have irreversible democracy, irreversible rule of law with all its ensuing consequences, and, of course, irreversible constitutional reality, which has always been at the centre of our attention and at the core of our working discussions,” said Nikol Pashinyan.

President Sarkissian also noted that the establishment of institutions in the country is essential, “of balanced institutions, because if we are talking about long-term, stable development, without that it will not be possible.”

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan posted on his Facebook page a video of the meeting with President Armen Sarkissian, accompanying it with the following note.

“I am glad that the President of the Republic and we share common principles and understandings regarding the ways of resolving the situation created around the Constitutional Court.”
