The CSTO has issued a comment regarding the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
“On 13 May of this year, Armenia’s Permanent and Plenipotentiary Representative to the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Viktor Biyakov, informed a meeting of the CSTO Permanent Council about the incident that took place on 12 May on the state border of the Republic of Armenia with the Republic of Azerbaijan. According to the Armenian side, Azerbaijani armed forces violated the border and advanced several kilometres into Armenian territory.
CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas discussed the situation that has arisen by telephone with Armenia’s Acting Minister of Defence Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Ara Ayvazyan.
The CSTO is closely following the development of the situation in the border regions of Armenia’s Syunik Province. As the situation develops, action will be taken as necessary, in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Security Treaty and the CSTO Charter,” the statement from the CSTO press service said.
