The acting battalion commander has been detained in the criminal case opened over the loss of a combat position of the Armenian Armed Forces on November 16 and the capture of servicemen, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.
According to the report, in the Jermuk section, the Azerbaijani side launched a surprise attack on the personnel of the Armed Forces position, but “the latter did not take appropriate measures to detect the attack in time or to resist it, which led to grave consequences.”
On November 22, a contract serviceman of the military unit and the acting battalion commander, Major G. G., were arrested; charges were brought against the latter and he was detained.
According to the report, the acting battalion commander had been appointed to the command observation post located in the designated defense area of the battalion, in one of the combat positions, where 15 servicemen were performing combat duty. At the same time, he had assumed the responsibilities of the person in charge of the defense area comprising 10 combat positions entrusted to the battalion’s defense.
“In accordance with the combat order of the commander of the army corps and the order of the corps commander, the corps transitioned from guard duty to defense, subunits were brought to full combat readiness, command and control bodies switched to a ‘Combat’ working regime, under which the corps, with its subordinate subunits, was prepared for combat operations.
G. G., being responsible for the battalion’s combat readiness and the successful execution of combat tasks by it, did not ensure the effective fulfillment of the combat tasks assigned to the forces engaged in combat duty, in particular, offering armed resistance to the approaching enemy forces; G. G., together with 7 other servicemen, fled, 11 servicemen at the stronghold were captured, the bodies of 2 killed servicemen of the RA Armed Forces were handed over to the Armenian side on November 17 and 19, and the combat position came under enemy control,” the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.
