Essential food items have run out in the shops of the Askeran district of the Republic of Artsakh. Hamlet Apresyan, the administrative head of the Askeran district, said this in an interview with NEWS.am.
“People have no New Year’s mood, but there is no panic either; we understand the situation and are enduring. Essential goods have been depleted in almost all shops; what remains are sweets, drinks, juices, and some household items. But it is positive that people have canned goods and stored provisions. In the villages it is easier than in Askeran itself, because the villagers mostly have their small farms, keep livestock, engage in beekeeping and had gathered supplies for themselves; they can even supply the town,” Apresyan noted.
According to Apresyan, there is no bread problem in the district; thanks to stored flour, the bakeries are operating. There is also no shortage of any kind of medicine at this time. The district has largely switched to using gas as fuel.
“We have a supply of gasoline, but we use it very sparingly. Taxis, buses (public transport), and trucks run on gas. The route vehicles are operating, but on a tighter schedule (timetable),” Apresyan said.
