The Council of the European Union has decided to reduce the list of epidemiologically safe countries, excluding 6 countries. This was reported by the Schengenvisainfo website, noting that these countries are Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Brunei, Japan, and Serbia.
The decision was discussed at a meeting of the EU Council, but no official statement has been made yet. The decision is to be published in its final form at the end of the week.
Exclusion from the list of safe countries means that EU member states are recommended to reinstate entry restrictions for travellers arriving from these countries, who were earlier permitted to visit the EU and Schengen area countries without restrictions.
The restrictions may include testing, double testing, quarantine, or a general entry ban for unvaccinated persons.
