Details about Toros Toranyan
Toros Toranyan was born in 1928 in Aleppo, Syria. His parents, Khacher and Vartouhi, were born in the village of Jibin in the city of Aintab, Cilician Armenia. His father completed the six-year program at the Cilician School of his birthplace and mastered the Armenian language, while his mother was raised in a Kurdish family from childhood and did not master her mother tongue. His father died when Toros Toranyan was two years old, and for that reason the family’s language was Turkish. Until the age of five, Toros spoke Turkish; he learned Armenian in kindergarten. He attended the Gulbenkian School in Aleppo. He received a medical education.
He was a multi-genre creator. The author’s well-known works include “The Path of the Stars,” “Green Letters,” “Song of the Sun,” “Re-reading Shahan Shahnour,” “Where the Roads Lead,” and a number of other works.
It should be noted that Toranyan, who lived and created in Aleppo, collaborated indiscriminately with all Armenian organizations, including the Aleppo boards of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party, with the aim of supporting the Armenian language and literature.
On this sad occasion, in the name of the great ADL family, we extend our deepest condolences to the deceased’s family members, as well as to his friends and the wide circle that respects his legacy.
