On May 28, a meeting took place between the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, and the President of Artsakh, Arayik Harutyunyan.
“This is the first official meeting in Yerevan since your inauguration and election. Today we mark one of the most glorious victories of our people — the day of the heroic battle of Sardarapat, Republic Day, which carries a very profound symbol: it shows how leaders can change the fate of a country and a people. This day carries a great message, and it is symbolic that we are holding our first official meeting in the Republic of Armenia, in Yerevan, precisely on this day,” Pashinyan said in particular, as conveyed by the Department of Information and Public Relations of the Prime Minister’s Office.
He expressed the view that, indeed, after the elections all the preconditions have been created for the governments and authorities of Armenia and Artsakh to move to the phase of implementing strategic, long-term programmes. “And, of course, our strategies and programmes must be aligned as much as possible, so that the impact of cooperation is greater,” the Prime Minister noted.
“Armenia and Artsakh constitute a common security space, and in this regard our tasks and challenges are obvious and evident. I am confident that we will be able to jointly confront the challenges, manage those challenges, and lead our homeland onto a path of strategic, long-term and stable development,” stressed Nikol Pashinyan.
For his part, Arayik Harutyunyan noted: “This is not a random day; it is a historic day, a binding day, and yes, as you mentioned, what matters is the awareness that much depends on leaders.” He expressed his conviction that harmonious work will yield more effective benefits for the development of the homeland, Artsakh and Armenia.
“I want to express my readiness to share with you, at this important, decisive and historic stage, the significant responsibilities undertaken before our country,” said the President of Artsakh, continuing: “The deepening of integration will be, for me, as the elected president of the country, one of the main themes, and it is no coincidence that we are considering having a separate unit in the form of an integration committee. It has already been designated by my decree that it be established.”
“In terms of security, as you mentioned, we have more important cooperation in the Defense Army, but we have issues in the remaining security directions, where joint work is also important,” noted Harutyunyan.
