Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in a Facebook live broadcast from the slope of Mount Artanish in the Gegharkunik Province, addressed the events in Iraq, which have created tension in the region.
“Together with a group of hikers, we are climbing to the summit of Artanish, and taking into account the meaning of the day, this is my and our message of peace to our region. A little while ago, a telephone conversation took place between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Iran, during which the two ministers discussed the situation created in the region. And Armenia’s foreign minister expressed condolences to the government and people of Iran in connection with the situation that has caused human casualties,” said Pashinyan, continuing: “You know that Iran is a friendly country for us, the United States is a friendly country for us, and in this situation, of course, we cannot be drawn into anti-Iranian actions, nor can we be drawn into anti-American actions. And our message is that our partners in Iran and the United States refrain from steps that would worsen the already tense situation in our region and in international relations.”
Nikol Pashinyan noted that from the very first moment, all recommendations have been given to Armenia’s relevant structures to “follow the situation closely and keep our finger on the pulse”: “All necessary steps have been taken, and the work is ongoing. That work also contains various nuances, and I do not think we will present all the details.”
At the end of the message, the Prime Minister of Armenia said: “I wanted to dedicate the title of this hike to peace in our region and, of course, to the development of a healthy lifestyle in Armenia.”
