Samuel Mkrtchyan, the former head of the Nubarashen penitentiary, has been arrested. This information was confirmed during a conversation with Armenpress by Marina Ohanyan, press secretary of the Investigative Committee, adding that additional information will be provided later.
Earlier, lawyer Vahan Hovhannisyan, representing Samuel Mkrtchyan’s interests, had stated that Samuel Mkrtchyan was arrested on suspicion of violating Article 308 (abuse of official powers) and Article 38-314 (complicity in official forgery) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, noting that the grounds and purpose of the arrest were lacking.
Samuel Mkrtchyan was released from the position of head of the penitentiary approximately two months ago.
