In the penultimate round of the European Individual Chess Championship taking place in Slovenia, Armenia’s team leader Gabriel Sargsyan, playing with the white pieces, defeated Azerbaijani Abdulla Gadimbayli and is the current leader with 8 points.
The only player who can overtake him is German Matthias Blübaum, who is currently competing in the 10th round against Frenchman Maxime Lagarde. Before the penultimate round, Blübaum was the sole leader with 7.5 points.
One round remains until the end of the championship.
