“The government is presenting a forecast of 7 percent economic growth for next year.” Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan said on December 2 during a discussion in parliament: “We will do everything to make that 7 percent a reality. We will also do everything to strive for 9 percent.”
“We have not said that 7 percent economic growth will happen by itself. We have said that for next year we have a special toolkit, the first point of which will be an increase in total expenditures of nearly double, exceeding 60 percent, including in directions that are infrastructural and will add growth potential in the long term. In the short term, I must refer to investment programs in the private sector, and I assure you that the implementation of those programs in the private sector is likewise a development that promises economic activity. If during next year we have certain difficulties, dangers, we consider them primarily conditioned by the fact that the phenomena taking place in the world as a result of the ‘Corona’ virus are not over. We hope that they will remain manageable. If everything goes smoothly, then we believe that the forecasts we are making are very realistic,” he said.
The other factor, according to Khachatryan, is international copper prices; there is hope that they will continue to create a favorable external environment for the economy.
