Hrachya Sargsyan Resigns as Mayor of Yerevan

Yerevan’s 13th mayor, Hrachya Sargsyan, has submitted his resignation. Sargsyan personally announced his departure from office during a live broadcast of an extraordinary session of the Council of Elders. The press has reported that until new elections are held, the position of mayor will be occupied by First Deputy Mayor Levon Hovhannisyan. It should be recalled that Hrachya Sargsyan was elected mayor on 22 December 2021, following the dismissal of Hayk Marutyan. Prior to that, he held the position of deputy mayor. Yerevan’s 13th mayor, Hrachya Sargsyan, has submitted his resignation. Sargsyan personally announced his departure from office during a live broadcast of an extraordinary session of the Council of Elders.

The press has reported that until new elections are held, the position of mayor will be occupied by First Deputy Mayor Levon Hovhannisyan.

Yerevan Deputy Mayor Tigran Avinyan is the government’s candidate for mayor in the upcoming elections of the Council of Elders.
