When we announced that we should close the roads leading to the Tsitsernakaberd memorial complex with apologies, with grief, with self-condemnation, there were very specific interpretations from very specific circles, as could be expected, that here, this unpatriotic, pro-Turkish government is deliberately closing Tsitsernakaberd in order to consign the history of the Genocide to oblivion, and so on. This was stated on April 27 by Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan during his Facebook live broadcast, referring to the April 24 events and their meaning.
“Such absurdities were being voiced, but we showed our understanding of the national, and yes, we contrasted that understanding with the old understandings, which I call understandings of bribery, because some do not even shy away from securing certain bribes under the cover of national events.
We showed the contrast in our understanding of national identity. We showed our government’s, the revolution’s ideology’s understanding of the national, of the Armenian type, of the Armenian image. Yes, we contrast that understanding with many understandings that have existed until now. This is the most important meaning of the April 24 events.
We say that by national-national, they have pauperized the nation, they have plundered the nation, and they have done so under the highest national slogans. I do not believe those people who, under national slogans, including by exploiting even their acceptable services rendered to the nation, have considered that a legitimacy to humiliate the nation, to plunder the nation, to earn millions, billions, to launder money,” declared Pashinyan.
“We were also discussing that in the coming years, in the event that the traditional march to Tsitsernakaberd takes place, if we do not use this year’s march components next year, the bar for April 24 could drop. We are now also thinking about next year.
We hope that next year the ‘Corona’ plague will not be there, and we will all, as before, go up to Tsitsernakaberd in a physical march by the hundreds of thousands, but this year’s experience will be used so that the events become more and more impressive with each year,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
