I do not think that we have a situation where the issue mentioned by Ara Ayvazyan exists; naturally, national interests are a priority for everyone, but I see no such occasion. This is what acting Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan said on 1 June during a conversation with journalists at the National Assembly, speaking about Ara Ayvazyan’s resignation from the post of Foreign Minister and the statements he made at the time of his resignation.
To the view that it is possible that there was or is some non-public new initiative that caused the resignation, Mher Grigoryan responded: “Exclude that, just exclude it. Let us understand the seriousness of the moment. I generally do not understand how one can endlessly spread rumours that there is a secret document, a secret annex. There is no such thing; what is being discussed is maximally public and there cannot be a secret document that is not published and not publicly discussed.”
As to the question that the chain of resignations could spread to other departments and bring the state system to collapse, the acting Deputy Prime Minister said: “If you specify the reasons or the reasons become known to us in more detail, then it will be possible to give a more extensive answer to that question. At this moment there is no such concern.”
According to him, the diplomatic front must be strong: “But I think that the questions should be directed to Mr. Ayvazyan, and he will give a more extensive answer to those questions.”
Let us recall that Ara Ayvazyan, when taking leave, had said that his decision to resign was conditioned by the reason that there should never be any doubt that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs could take some step or give consent to ideas or initiatives that were against our statehood and national and state interests.
