There is a great opportunity to establish normal relations between Armenia and Turkey. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this in the National Assembly while presenting the government’s 2022 program performance report, speaking about the process of regulating Armenian-Turkish relations.
“That opportunity has grown thanks to post-diplomatic and post-political factors — human values — when the Republic of Armenia decided to respond with logic to the devastating earthquake in Turkey. Turkey, for its part, would not have opened the Margara bridge for our cargo if it did not believe in our sincerity,” Pashinyan said.
According to him, the dozens of Armenian flags flying in front of Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs during Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan’s visit to Ankara are not merely a ceremonial attribution, but a record that hope can arise where despair prevails. The flags of Armenia and Turkey rose above the ruins of our relations and the devastating earthquake.
“I hope that in the near future the Armenia-Turkey border will open and a foundation will be created for the development of neighborly, normal relations. In this regard, it is important that in the coming months the agreement on crossing the border for citizens of third countries and holders of diplomatic passports be brought to life,” Pashinyan said.
It should be noted that Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan visited Turkey on February 15, following the devastating earthquake of February 6. In addition, for the first time in nearly 30 years, the Margara bridge was opened to send humanitarian aid to Turkey.
