The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Parliament has unanimously approved a document on Nagorno-Karabakh calling for the immediate return of all persons taken prisoner as a result of the war. Journalist Talal Khrais reported this to Armenpress from Rome.
The corresponding resolution was presented to the Chamber of Deputies by its president, Piero Fassino.
As stated in the resolution, it obliges the government to call for the release of all prisoners of war, to encourage the parties to constructively contribute to the demining of territories, calling on them to provide each other with maps of mined areas. The government was also called upon to support, through the relevant platforms of the OSCE, the UN and the European Union, the full implementation of the trilateral statement of 9 November 2020.
According to the resolution, the Italian government should also call on the co-chair of the Minsk Group to support negotiations between the parties aimed at a final settlement of the issue in the region. It is envisaged that the Italian government should use its excellent relations with the two countries for the reconciliation of the two countries and the resumption of negotiations.
