The Russian Federation, France and the United States of America condemn in the strongest terms the rise in violence in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone and beyond its borders. This was stated in a joint statement by Russian Federation Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian and United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
“Russian Federation Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian and United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, representatives of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries, condemn in the strongest terms the unprecedented and dangerous rise in violence in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone and beyond its borders,” the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.
The ministers unequivocally stressed that the latest attacks, which were presumably aimed at civilian structures, both along the line of contact and in the territories of Armenia and Azerbaijan outside the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, as well as the disproportionate nature of such attacks, constitute an unacceptable threat to stability in the region.
Referring to the 1 October statement of the leaders of the three OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries, the ministers again called on the parties to the conflict to immediately and unconditionally reaffirm the ceasefire regime.
“The co-chair countries are determined to fully implement their OSCE and international community mandate, with the support of the Minsk Group member countries. In accordance with that mandate, they will continue to consistently increase interaction with the parties, calling on them to undertake without delay the commitments to resume the settlement process on the basis of the existing fundamental principles and relevant international documents, which are well known to both sides,” the statement said.
