At the invitation of President Armen Sarkissian, on February 10, for the first time, King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein Al Hashimi of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan arrived in Armenia on an official visit.
As reported by the Department of Public Relations of the Office of the President of the Republic of Armenia, the delegation headed by King Abdullah II includes his brother, His Royal Highness Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, the King’s advisor on religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, Jordan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, the King’s advisor on communications and coordination Bisher Al Khasawneh, and Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Tareq Hammouri.
At Yerevan’s Zvartnots International Airport, the high-ranking guest was welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan.
King Abdullah II is a figure enjoying great prestige in the Islamic world, a representative of the Hashemite Kingdom, of the 41st generation descended from the Prophet Muhammad, and ascended to the throne on February 7, 1999. Abdullah II is the custodian of the Christian and Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem.
President Armen Sarkissian and the King of Jordan had met in April 2019 during the Armenian President’s working visit to Jordan, during which the President of Armenia had invited the King to visit Armenia.
