On March 29, a meeting of the Standing Committee on Political Affairs and International Cooperation of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly was held in St. Petersburg, chaired by Hagop Arshakyan, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
According to Armenpress, among other matters, the committee’s agenda included the declaration adopted by the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on December 14, 2022, regarding the humanitarian crisis created by Azerbaijan in Mountainous Karabakh.
In connection with this issue, Shirak Torosyan, a deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, drew the attention of those present to the ongoing blockade of the Lachin Corridor and the humanitarian crisis it has caused in Mountainous Karabakh. In this context, he emphasized the imperative of the unconditional and prompt implementation by Azerbaijan of the ruling of the International Court of Justice.
Tigran Abrahamyan, secretary of the “I Have Honor” faction of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, noted that Azerbaijan has not only violated the trilateral agreements but is also making new demands, endangering the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Armenia, a CSTO member state. Azerbaijan’s threats are accompanied by provocations against Armenia and Mountainous Karabakh, and there are casualties.
On the same day, meetings of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly’s standing committees on defense and security and on socio-economic and legal affairs were also held. Draft model legal documents being developed by the aforementioned committees were discussed.
The committees of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly adopted decisions to send the draft declarations of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Council on “Prevention of the Arms Race in Outer Space” and “Prevention of Drug Use Among Children and Youth” to the parliaments of CSTO member states for the purpose of obtaining opinions and suggestions.
